About
Erik Bergishagen and Jagersbo Kennel Bio
In 1928 my father, Erik Bergishagen Sr., registered the kennel name “Jagersbo” with the American Kennel Club. My father bred English Setters and Pointers, which he imported from Denmark and Sweden. Later, he bred Brittany and Irish Water Spaniels, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, Dachshunds and Labrador Retrievers. In 1935
Jagersbo Kennels moved to its current location in what is now Troy, Michigan. I was 23 years old in 1952 when my father died. At that time, I registered the kennel in my name and it continues to operate as our family business.
Our first Labrador was Jock of Athabaska, sired by Ch. Shed of Arden. Jock arrived at Jagersbo in the spring of 1946 and I finished his championship when I was 17 years old. Since then, I have shown over 200 dogs of varying breeds to their championships. In 1962 I purchased a German Wirehaired Pointer and, over a period of 13 years, bred 19 litters and 16 champions. Currently we own and breed Labrador Retrievers. Presently, I am licensed to judge the Group, all Sporting dogs and Best in Show.
Some of my accomplishments and contributions include:
1968-1988 | Licensed all-breed professional handler and member of the Professional Handlers Association and the Dog Handlers’ Guild |
1976-Present | Member and Director of the Detroit Kennel Club |
1980-1987 | First Vice President, Detroit Kennel Club |

1990-2000 | Trustee Emeritus, Morris Animal Foundation |
1992-1996 | Canine Vice President, Morris Animal Foundation |
2001-Present | American Kennel Club Delegate for the Detroit Kennel Club |
I received my judge’s license in 1988. Some of my judging accomplishments include:
