Erik Bergishagen

Erik Bergishagen

After Erik Bergishagen Sr. passed away, the kennel was left in the hands of his son, Erik Bergishagen. At that time, Erik registered the kennel in his name and continued to operate it as a family business. While his father bred settlers and pointers, Erik’s passion was in Labrador retrievers.

The first Labrador to come to Jagersbo was Jock of Athabaska, sired by Ch. Shed of Arden (pictured above). Jock arrived at Jagersbo in the spring of 1946 and Erik finished Jock’s championship when he was just 17 years old. Since then, Erik showed over 200 dogs of varying breeds that led to their championships. In 1962, he purchased a German Wirehaired Pointer and, over a period of 13 years, bred 19 litters and 16 champions.

Erik Bergishagen sadly passed away on August 2, 2015. Erik was born July 21, 1929. He was a beloved dog breeder and owner of Jagerso Kennels. Among his many list of accomplishments he was President of the Detroit Kennel Club, Canine Vice President of the Morris Animal foundation and American Kennel Club Delegate for the Detroit Kennel Club. Erik died peacefully at his home August 2, 2015. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
